Week 9

When I started reading this story I thought it would be this great story about a play ground love that bloomed into something wonderful as they got older but the end was kind of silly but it made me think, could Stephen had known he wasn’t going to like girls even in the fifth grade?

All through middle school he had no interest in her so could this give into the idea that being gay is something you are born with? I believe that you are born gay and that there is no way to fix it and you shouldn’t want to fix it. If someone loves someone let them love. I think this is proof that you are born with this and that sometimes you can’t help things from happening.

I think this story is kind of sad, because this poor girl worked up the courage to ask a boy she liked out, something that is not an easy task, especially for a 5th grader, only to have her heart broken. But it had to have been a comfort to her later to find out that she wasn’t the reason that he said no, it was because he truly just wasn’t atrracted to her. He preferred boys, even if he may or may not have known it yet.

This artist is one that I’ve always found interesting since he started his “goodbye art”. Alot of his pieces feature people, especially famous and infamous ones. The art piece on the first page is a portrait of the “Green River Killer” and is made up of multiplied pictures of his victims. I think the artist was trying to show that these victims are what make up this killer’s infamous reputation and he’ll be living with their ghost forever so now they’re what make up his life. However I don’t think the killer even deserved to have this artist waste his time creating the portrait, he doesn’t deserve anything.

But please look at his other art, it’s all amazing. 

Inmates Rescue Guard in Jailhouse Brawl

Read this article and watch the video. It is amazing.

This one inmate attacks an older guard and then about 10 other inmates come and rescue the guard.

I think this article says something about the prison system. I think it says that obviously the prison system is doing something right. That one guy got the upper hand on a guard and instead of jumping at the chance to cause a riot, these inmates realized that this guy can seriously hurt a guard who has been nothing but nice to them and they stepped in to rescue him.

This disproves the stereotype that all prisoners are these scary jerks looking for a fight, and proves that they are learning something in jail.

I think this story is awesome. It really shows that at least on some level the prison system is working by taking people who were previously violent and converting them into decent people. It did seem weird to me during the whole video that none of these prisoners were in cells or anthing. Why were they all able to get to the guard in the first place? I mean in this case it all worked out, but that situation could have been really different if those men had chosen not to help the guard and started a riot or something instead. It seems if these prisoners had been in their cells where they were supposed to be none of this would’ve happened in the first place.

Teens Trying to Get Pregnant

This article is about teenage girls actually trying to get pregnant. It shows how the mothers of these girls feel, and allows an open chatroom for people to discuss it. In the chatroom their seems to  be a general agreement that teen girls shouldn’t try to take this path, and if I were in their position I’d feel the same way. It seems like such an odd situation to me, because I’ve never met a teenage girl that wanted a baby.All of the girls I know spend a good deal of time making sure they avoid it. I don’t understand why anybody would want to have a baby so early in life. It would make so much more sense to wait until your done with high school at the very least. Or ideally, go to college and get a decent career started so you have something to build on and give your family a good life and aren’t on welfare struggling for money.

By showing a guy in glasses playing a video game, the photographer definitely appeals to our stereotypes of nerdom. The Slanket/Snuggie phenomenon is actually sort of interesting to me. It seems to be something that people have appropriated as a sign of their sense of humor rather than something that is actually celebrated for its function. There’s something about our culture right now that breeds displaying your sense of irony through things you own. While it might not be cool to own a blanket with sleeves, it IS cool if you own the blanket to make fun of the people who own the blanket sincerely. I read several months ago about a large group of people in NYC putting together a Slanket/Snuggie bar crawl through the village. I love the ridiculousness of that. trevortrigg: i don’t know whether this is the dumbest thing i have ever seen or a really good idea. I personally would love to have a  little blanket suit to keep me warm without wrapping me up. but you have to ask yourself one question, at what cost? looking at the picture, i think some people will avoid this thing because it makes you look so stupid. but still, it would probably be really warm. week 7 reblog In this picture, the typical idea of a nerd is portrayed in this picture. He is wearing glasses and playing  video games, and wearing a snuggie.In my opinoin, i think that the snuggie is very cool and it is actually a great conveniant invention. The person who took this picture probably was trying to ridicule this man, when really i think its perfect advertisement for the snuggie. People are able to do things like read books and play video games, and stay warm all while wearing the snuggie. W7 reblog I think Snuggies are actually a pretty decent idea when you think about it. I think Snuggies are actually a pretty decent idea when you think about it. I mean once you’re wrapped up in a blanket you for no reason want to leave that warmth. It’s the equivalent of that feeling when you have to get out of bed in the morning. I’m doing a project right now for another class over deforestation in Brazil. It’s obvious what Greenpeace (the group who made the video) were trying to get across. They wanted to show the level of destruction being caused in the Amazon Rainforest.They’ve slashed and burned down enough trees to cover Portugal! That’s just ridiculous. The video didn’t even mention how taking out these trees has made the land unstable and has caused mudslides all throughout that area.  All of this to raise cattle. Cattle that doesn’t even look very good to be honest, I mean not to say our cattle our better, but I’ve seen much better, less lean cows in America. They have plenty of other natural resources they could rely on, many of them lying within the rainforest. I just don’t understand what makes raising cattle so much better than using what they already have.

todayifeelsilly: Week 4 I really could care less about the fair. I just really like this picture. Like I said in my first blog I really like Ferris Wheels. They scare the hell out of me but I just love the way they look. This picture is beautiful. I love the angle and the lights. Just the overall look of this just screams look at me. I also love that it was taken at night. For some reason I feel it wouldn’t be the same if it was taken during the day. marieljavier: lincolnman: W4 The Texas State Fair comes once a year and i know a lot of people attended it. I feel that i wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as i would’ve wanted to. I attended the fair last year and it was great, especially the food. You have the turkey legs, the funnel cakes, and i even heard they have fried Oreos. I wish I could’ve tried those. The only downfall of the fair has to be the amount of money we waste. Atleast I think so. I get all excited and just start spending money on food and rides. I would suggest everyone to go, but to go with a certain spending limit. WK 4 I love going to the fair. I still remember those days where all my family will put aside a whole sunday to go t the fair. I loved because I had my cousins with to enjoy the rides and food. I wished I could go this year but because of the economy and everything we had to take the fair away from our plans. I agree with lincolnman that if you do end up going to the fair this year, you must know how much money you want to spend. I remember one year when my father said he was going to get on every ride and buy what he wanted, and we ended up spending more than $500.  W5 Reblog This picture is a bit sad for me. This picture is a bit sad for me. It makes me realize that I’ve lived in Texas almost my entire life and have been to the State Fair maybe 3 or 4 times. And although I love all the rides and the animals and everything there, especially the people watching, I never get to go because my whole family hates it for some reason. What Keen means by this is that nobody is going to perfect so we have to learn to find people we love even with all their flaws. Once you are able to get passed a persons faults you’ll have a better understanding of who they are and be able to love them all the more for it. And even if you could find a perfect person, would you truly be able to love them? A perfect person would always be better than you and make you feel inadequate therefore making them impossible to love. Real love is in those people who we feel equal to and treat us as their equals. And if you loved someone for there flaws then they could love you for your own flaws.

It reminds me out of a scene in the movie Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly when shes standing on the edge of a cliff. In the background of the movie there is classical music playing and I can almost hear the exact same music when I look at the picture because it has the same feeling to me. It just such a free flowing picture. For some reason I also love the fact that the person is completely shadowed and the rest of the picture is lite up. The fabric to me also looks like waves, just how they curl and ripple. Im just in love with this picture. I think this title of this picture is odd, because if I just to looked at the picure I don’t get any ghostly vibes or anything. It actually seems more like a cheerful picture to me. If I had a crazy wind and a giant piece of fabric I know I’d be smiling and playing… I think a Superman-style cape would be called for. But then again I guess not all ghosts are bad. It could be a friend she lost or something alongs those lines. Maybe like one of those movies where it’s ghost coming to comfort her in her time of need. Maybe it’s not a ghost at all, maybe it’s actually a memory, and it’s relating to her childhood in times where she could use that cloth as a Superman cape and now that she’s older she feels trapped andis finally lettin go. W4 I realize it’s flu season and whatnot but I’m tired of these signs and people freaking out over germs! For starters, people should be washing their hands no matter what. If you don’t-your nasty-I must politely ask you to never touch me. And I’m not sure what everybody else’s mothers taught them but mine always told me to cover my mouth if I’m coughing or sneezing, then wash my hands.It’s not difficult and I don’t need a sign to remind me. And if you’re being forced to wear a surgical mask because you’re just THAT sick, you probably should just stay away from people anyway and not go near them, you’ll probably look pretty dumb wearing that mask anyway (I’d choose to stay inside). Maybe I seem a little harsh about this, but I’m nineteen years old now, never had a flu shot, never had the flu, and in general I rarely get sick ( a sore throat for a day or two is about the worst it gets for me). So maybe if people wouldn’t be so paranoid and just live their lives then they could build up immune systems that actually work instead of relying on Purell and medicine to save them.
